Destination Wedding Photography at the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel in Croatia

Rob and Sara’s Destination wedding at the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel in Dubrovnik, Croatia couldn’t have been a more perfect weekend and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer couple to work with.

Originally from the UK, Rob and Sara are now based in Australia and I had the pleasure of photographing one of Sara’s best friends weddings before Sara got in touch regarding the destination wedding that they were planning in Croatia.

Over 100 guests flew over to the beautiful Dubrovnik to celebrate with the couple and the wedding venue was an incredible location for a stunning wedding that was filled with laughter, tears and lots of dancing.

The day began with Sara getting ready at Dubrovnik Palace while Rob enjoyed a few poolside drinks with his friends at their hotel before heading over to the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel to watch the football before the wedding ceremony.

The ceremony setting was one of the most amazing locations I had ever seen with the wedding taking place on the rocks looking out over the Adriatic Sea before guests were let up onto the balcony for a drinks reception with stunning views as things were set up for a sunset reception meal.

Despite the threat of rain and a beautiful rainbow, we were treated to an unbelievable sunset which gave us the chance to capture some romantic sunset wedding photographs before speeches and dancing went well into the night.

Here are a few images from this lovely destination wedding at the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel in Croatia

Destination Weddings in Croatia

Croatia has become an increasingly popular choice for couples looking to tie the knot in a dream destination wedding with its stunning Adriatic coastline, charming medieval towns, and picturesque landscapes.

Here are a few reasons why you may wish to choose Croatia as your destination wedding location

  • Breathtaking Venues. From historic fortresses and palaces to luxury hotels and beachfront villas, Croatia offers a wide range of unique and enchanting wedding venues that cater to every couple's taste and budget. Whether you dream of exchanging vows in a medieval Old Town or celebrating with loved ones on a sun-kissed beach, Croatia has a location that will make your wedding truly unforgettable.

  • Stunning Natural Beauty. Croatia's diverse landscapes provide an unparalleled backdrop for your wedding photographs. The crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, lush green islands, and dramatic cliffs create picture-perfect settings that will leave a lasting impression on you and your guests.

  • Rich Culture and History. The country's rich history and cultural heritage add an air of romance and mystique to your wedding celebration. Croatia's centuries-old architecture, charming cobblestone streets, and local traditions will make your wedding feel like a fairy tale come to life.

  • Delicious Cuisine Croatian cuisine is renowned for its mouthwatering flavors and fresh, local ingredients. Treat your guests to a feast of delicious seafood, succulent meats, and decadent desserts that showcase the country's culinary heritage.

Planning Your Croatian Destination Wedding: Tips and Advice

  1. Hire a Local Wedding Planner. A professional wedding planner with experience in organizing destination weddings in Croatia can help you navigate the local regulations, find the perfect venue, and ensure every detail of your special day is flawlessly executed.

  2. Research Legal Requirements Croatia has specific legal requirements for foreign couples wishing to marry in the country. Research these requirements well in advance, and consult with your wedding planner or the Croatian consulate in your country to ensure all necessary paperwork is completed correctly.

  3. Consider the Climate. Croatia enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The best time to plan your wedding is between May and October when the weather is most favorable. Keep in mind that July and August are the peak tourist months, so booking venues and accommodations early is crucial.

  4. Embrace Local Traditions. Incorporate local Croatian customs and traditions into your wedding to make it a truly authentic experience. Consider hiring a traditional klapa group to serenade your guests or offering local wines and spirits as part of your celebration.

  5. Take Advantage of Croatia's Natural Beauty. Croatia is home to stunning beaches, waterfalls, and scenic landscapes. Incorporating these natural wonders into your wedding can make for unforgettable memories. If you are unable to do this on the wedding day itself then consider taking pre-wedding photos the day before at a local beach or hosting a post-wedding brunch at a nearby vineyard. You can also allocate some time the day after the wedding to put your dress back on and visit some incredible locations for photographs. I always recommend including a day before or day after session to make the most of your location and capture some images in places that might not be possible on the wedding day.
