Chilterns Engagement Photography in Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire Engagement Photo Shoot in Penn Wood

Engagement photography sessions are a great way to get to know a couple before their wedding day and it was clear from working with the lovely Harvey and Kiranpreet that we were going to have so much fun over the course of their wedding.

This beautiful couple had some incredible plans for their multi-day Sikh wedding that included a civil wedding at Pembroke Lodge, their Anand Karaj Sikh wedding ceremony and a grand reception at the stunning Grosvenor House.

Harvey and Kiranpreet were so relaxed and easy to work with and I had so much fun with them for their engagement session which took place a short while before the wedding events commenced.

Here are a few images from this Buckinghamshire pre wedding shoot in Penn Wood, near Amersham in the lovely Chilterns.

Pre-Wedding Photography in Penn Wood, Buckinghamshire

Penn Wood, nestled in the heart of Buckinghamshire, is a hidden gem for pre-wedding photography. With its ancient trees, winding woodland paths, and ever-changing seasonal beauty, it offers couples a stunning natural backdrop for romantic and timeless engagement photos.

Why Choose Penn Wood for a Pre-Wedding Shoot?

  1. Natural Beauty
Penn Wood is one of the largest ancient woodlands in the Chilterns, providing a mix of towering beech trees, moss-covered trunks, and open glades. Whether in the fresh greenery of spring, golden hues of autumn, or a soft winter frost, the scenery is always breathtaking.

  2. Peaceful and Secluded
Unlike busy parks or city locations, Penn Wood offers a quiet and intimate setting. Couples can relax, be themselves, and enjoy the experience without distractions, leading to more natural and authentic images.

  3. Varied Backdrops
The woodland has an ever-changing landscape with sunlit clearings, fallen tree trunks, and hidden trails, allowing for a diverse range of shots. Photographers can play with light filtering through the trees, creating soft, dreamy images.

  4. Ideal for Candid and Styled Shots
Whether couples want a casual, relaxed session walking hand in hand or a more styled shoot with elegant outfits, the wood provides a versatile setting. It’s also perfect for couples bringing their pets along for the session!

Best Time for a Pre-Wedding Shoot in Penn Wood

  • Spring – Fresh green foliage, bluebells, and soft morning light create a fairytale-like atmosphere.

  • Summer – Lush greenery, warm golden light in the late afternoon, and longer daylight hours for extended shoots.

  • Autumn – The woodland transforms into a rich tapestry of oranges, reds, and yellows, making it a favourite for romantic, warm-toned photos.

  • Winter – A crisp, misty atmosphere with bare trees and occasional frost can add a dramatic and intimate touch to the photos.

Tips for a Perfect Penn Wood Pre-Wedding Shoot

  • Wear comfortable footwear – The woodland paths can be uneven, so practical shoes are essential, especially if venturing off the main trails.

  • Consider the weather – A cloudy day can create soft, even lighting, while sunny days add beautiful sunbursts through the trees.

  • Bring props if desired – A picnic blanket, bouquet, or even a lantern for evening shots can add a personal touch.

  • Time it right – Although sunrise and sunset are usually best for photographs, the shaded woodland setting means that during the day is typically best for the best light.

Penn Wood is a wonderful choice for couples looking for a romantic, natural setting for their pre-wedding photography.
